Jim Sitarski

Post by Giants23 on Mon 03 May 2010, 5:00 pm

I just heard that Jim Sitarski (Steel Curtain, Titans & former Giant) is in the hospital (Mercy). Apparently, his kidneys are not functioning. It sounds as though it is pretty serious.

Please keep Jim in your prayers!

Jim Sitarski

I spoke with Jim today and he sounds tired. They are still doing tests to see what's causing both of his kidneys to fail. They don't know yet if this is treatable or if the kidneys will eventually completely fail. To make matters worse, Jim and Joe's dad was admitted to Mercy yesterday with congestive heart failure. I spoke with Joe and he hopes dad will be able to come home today.

Jim is in Room 512B at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo.

Update

Post by Giants23 on Thu 06 May 2010, 10:56 am

Jim's kidneys have been getting progressively worse and the medical experts still do not know what is causing their decline. Yesterday, they biopsied one of Jim's kidneys. The results were not known as of last night, but it looks like they will start Jim on dialysis today. They are still hoping that they can determine the cause of Jim's kidney failure and reverse the damage.

Please keep Jim and his family in your thoughts and prayers!

Jim greatly appreciates the kind messages on this board and thanks those of you who have been able to call and/or visit.

I spoke with Joe on Friday night and Jim is doing much better now do to the dialysis treatments he has been receiving. The doctors, as of Friday, had yet to determine the cause of Jim's kidney failure, but they were optimistic they could reverse the damage. Both Jim and his family are in much better spirits now do to Jim's marked improvement from the dialysis treatments.

Please continue to send your thoughts to Jim!

Sean

I just spoke with Jim and he cannot eat any food right now. It appears there was an infection in the kidneys that has spread to his body and he can't eat solid food for the next couple of days while they fight the infection. The doctors are optimistic that once the infection clears up they hope his kidneys will begin functioning properly.

Only family can visit with Jim for the next couple of days, so if you are planning to visit it is best you call the hospital first. Jim is in room 512B. Jim is hoping he will be discharged on Friday.

Jim was released from the hospital today and is home resting. He sounds tired but I understand his kidneys are starting to function again, which is very good news.

While it looks like Jim's football career is over, he has been inspired by the CEO and as soon as he is able he plans to start training for the fastest man contest.

You're on Mueller, provided you give me a 50 yard head start. If I'm lucky I may be able to squeak out a tie. Hope you conjure up some more of those "happy pills".....it's the only way old fat guys like myself can survive the tournaments....lol
